Legislative Updates: Wildfires Summary
The state legislature has been BUSY this year. To help you stay on top of all the new bills, we’ve grouped them together into categories to help simplify your reviews. This first summary relates to wildfire legislation.

AB-1986: Property Insurance; Home Hardened
AB-1986 would require insurance companies to provide premium quotes that include pricing for properties which are certified as "hardened."

SB-904: Emergency Services Act: Wildfires
SB-904 would require HCD to determine if wildfires have caused "substantial structural damage" and to work with local agencies to support recovery and rebuilding efforts by reducing regulatory requirements.

AB-1893: Wildfire Prevention: Grant Program
AB-893 would expand the wildfire prevention grant program to include projects undertaken by local governments for helicopter-accessible water supplies.

SB-899: Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force
SB-899 would require the wildfire and forest resilience task force to assess health costs and impacts of high-severity wildfire smoke.

AB-1847: Wildfire Mortgage Forbearance
AB-1847 would extend mortgage forbearance for borrowers impacted by recent wildfires.

AB-1971: Property Tax: Home Hardening Exemption
AB-1971 would exclude "home hardening retrofit improvements" of $100,000 or greater from property tax reassessment.

AB-2517: Fire Hazard Severity Zones - Notice
AB-2517 would require the State Fire Marshal to provide public notice, review, and the opportunity for public comment before designating areas as moderate, high, or very high fire hazard severity zones.
