SB-904: Emergency Services Act: Wildfires

UPDATE: This ordinance was filed on 1-8-26. It passed the Committees on Emergency Management and Appropriations on 4-17-26.

SB-904 was introduced on 1-21-26 by Senator Seyarto and Co-Authored by Assembly Member Hadwick. Senators Allen, Alvarado-Gil, Choi, Niello, and Ochoa Bogh as well as Assembly members Alanis, Flora, Gallagher, Lackey, Patterson, and Tangipa.

This bill would require HCD to make a written determination, within 10 days of the declaration of a wildfire-related State of Emergency, as to whether the wildfire caused substantial structural damage. It would also require HCD to consult with local governments to identify local procedures and Building Codes that may be suspended or revised in order to support recovery and rebuilding efforts.
