APPROVED: SB 4: Student Housing

UPDATE: This legislation was approved and signed by the Governor on 10-11-23.

SB 4 was introduced by Senator Wiener on 2-17-23. It is also Co-authored by members of the Assembly and other Senators

This bill would require that housing developments be a use by right on any land owned by a university, except adjacent to large industrial sites. 100% of the units would be required to be affordable, but 20% may be set at moderate-income levels, and a portion of the units may be used by a manager or staff of the university.


These projects would also be eligible for density bonus and other incentives, concessions, waivers, and parking reductions.
