UPDATE: This legislation was approved by the Committee on Housing and has been amended and re-referred to the Committee on Local Government. Last update 3-21-24.

SB-1211 was introduced by Senator Skinner on 2-15-2024.

This bill would provide clarifying language around ADU projects. First, it would prohibit a local agency from requiring the replacement of parking spaces when a carport, covered parking structure, or uncovered parking space is demolished for construction of the ADU. Additionally, this bill would modify the language for ADU projects in multi-family buildings to allow one, or a 25% increase in units, whichever is greater. Further, local agencies must permit up to 2 detached ADU units at multi-family buildings.
