Ordinance 240845: Gas Appliances in New Construction

UPDATE: This ordinance was approved by the Board of Supervisors on 10-15-24, and is pending signature by the Mayor.

Ordinance 240845 was introduced on 9-3-24 by Supervisors Mandelman and Melgar.

This ordinance would allow new construction projects to include natural gas infrastructure for gas appliances as long as they comply with Department of Energy Standards under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA).

Past legislation required new construction to be all electric, but a recent court determination declared this regulation unlawful.
