HOT: Restrict Suspension of Water/Utility Services to Residential Tenants during Construction

Ordinance 220241 was introduced on 3-8-22 by Supervisor Peskin

This Ordinance prohibits construction activities that suspend water or electricity service in buildings with residential rental units of longer than 2 hours unless an alternative source is provided. Also requires advance notice of disruption in service, or construction noise levels over specified limits.

  • For shut-downs of 2-4 hours in a day, residents must receive 72 hour advance written notice.

  • For shut-downs lasting more than 2-4 hours on two or more consecutive days, 7 days written notice must be provided, along with weekly updates for prolonged projects.
