This bill would require the Department of Housing and Community Development to perform a review of construction cost pressures for residential construction related to new or existing building code requirements and provide a one-time report to the Legislature. The Department would be required to perform additional reviews every code cycle (3 years) and propose revisions to the code with a goal of reducing the cost of construction for a new residential development by 30%.
It would also require the Department to convene a working group no later than December 31, 2025 to research and consider amendments to state building standards, to achieve this goal.
