Suspended: SB 795: HVAC registry

Updated: Jan 5, 2024

UPDATE: This legislation has been suspended. It was passed by the Senate in May 2023 and forwarded to the Assembly for review, but was placed on suspension in August 2023.

SB 795 was introduced by Senators Stern and Cortese on 2-17-23.

This bill would require the State Energy Resources Conservation and Development Commission to develop a registry and compliance tracking system for all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment sales. The contractors State License Board would be required to cross-check the purchase of HVAC equipment with the permit compliance documents in order to identify contractors and installers that are not complying with the law. As proposed, the system would not be open to the public.
