UPDATE: This legislation was referred to the Committees on Energy, Utilities, and Communications and the Committee on Labor, Public Employment, and Retirement on 2-21-24. Amendments have been made and Committee reviews continue.

SB-1148 was introduced by Senators Blakespear and Wahab on 2-14-2024.

This bill would allow an exception from providing individual electrical meters on multifamily sites. In lieu of providing meters for every residential unit, an electrical generation and energy storage facility, capable of providing backup electricity to the site, using renewable energy resources.

Property Owners would be prohibited from raising rents for installation of the system and tenant's electricity costs would need to be less than what they would have paid with an individually metered system.
