Ordinance 250811: Permit Expiration Dates

UPDATE: This ordinance was filed on 8-7-25. It's been referred to the Building Inspection Commission.

Ordinance 250811 was introduced on 8-7-25 by Supervisors Mahmood and Dorsey.

This ordinance modifies dates for permit expiration during plancheck and also during construction.

Currently, Permits under review expire within either 360 calendar days, or 720 calendar days depending on the size of the project. Extensions of 360 and 720 days are permitted.

This ordinance would reduce the expiration timeline to 365 days for permits under review. An option for a 180 day extension would apply.

Currently, Issued permits expire within 360 days to 1,440 days with extensions of up to 720 days.

This ordinance would standardize and reduce expiration timelines for Issued permits. Permits would expire within 365 days if work has not begun, or if DBI determines the work was suspended, discontinued, or abandoned for a period of 365 days. One extension up to 180 days would be permitted.
