APPROVED BUT NOT IN EFFECT: Ordinance 240880: Rent Control Expansion

Updated: Nov 15

UPDATE: This ordinance was approved by the Board of Supervisors on 10-15-24 and signed by the Mayor on 10-24-24. Because Proposition 33 failed at the ballot, this Ordinance will not go into effect.

Ordinance 240880 was introduced on 9-10-24 by Supervisors Peskin, Preston, Chan, Ronen, and Walton.

This ordinance would make significant changes to rent control. In the past, buildings constructed prior to June 13, 1979 were subject to rent control. This ordinance would automatically go into effect if Proposition 33 passes requiring rent control on properties built up to and including June 13, 1994.

Ordinance 240964 appears to be a duplicate copy of this legislation, introduced on 9-30-24, but no action has been taken.
