SB 897 was introduced on 2-1-22 by Senator Wieckowski.
This bill would improve the ADU legislation including:
Increase the maximum height of a rear yard ADU to 18' for detached buildings, and 25’ for attached units.
Local agencies may allow an additional 2 feet in height to accommodate a roof pitch that is aligned with the roof pitch of the primary dwelling unit.
Prohibits local agencies from requiring parking for ADU's.
Prohibits the requirements for sprinklers in the existing primary dwelling.
Prohibits permit denials for ADU’s because of building standard violations.
