UPDATE: This ordinance was approved and signed by the Mayor on 9-30-25.

Ordinance 250806 was introduced on 7-29-25 by Mayor Lurie.

This ordinance is part of the 200-day goals for the PermitSF program. Article 38 sets forth standards for air quality in residential buildings. Projects within an Article 38 zone are typically required to provide mechanical ventilation due to high levels of air pollution.

Current law requires that projects within this zone provide mechanical systems that can create positive pressure in the entire building, including within the residential units. This ordinance would eliminate the requirement for positive pressure within the units, and only require it in common areas. A technical infeasibility would need to be proven to be exempted.
