We want to De-Mystify Fire Violations for you

Annual Inspections

We know understanding the different type of violations can be really tricky and it may be difficult to know who to reach out to with questions. We've put together a series of short emails to help demystify each type of violation.

When it comes to Fire Violations, they aren't very descriptive. The description of the violation may say something as generic as "sleeping area requirements."  Generally this note relates to a problem with the egress from a bedroom. Maybe there isn't a compliant egress window, or the exit is blocked.  Other descriptions may be clearer, calling out fire escape maintenance, fire alarm maintenance, missing evacuation signs, fire extinguisher maintenance, etc.

In addition to the ambiguity of the description, the notes for "corrective action" can also be confusing. For instance, a note that says "correct-no permit" this means you can go ahead and make the correction without needing to get a permit. Whereas "obtain permit" pretty obviously means you'll need to get a permit to correct the violation.
