UPDATE: No action has been taken on this ordinance since 12-6-23. Supervisor Melgar has requested this ordinance remain active until 1-16-24 pending further consideration.

Ordinance 231224 was introduced on 11-28-23 by Supervisor Melgar.

This legislation would allow a tenant to sue the owner if the unit does not meet health/safety standards. Tenants who win their lawsuits would be eligible for attorneys' fees and/or actual damages. Damages would be increased 3x for tenants younger than 18 or older than 65 or disabled.
