HOT: AB 2216: Tenancy Pets

UPDATE: This legislation was approved by the Committee on Judiciary on 4-9-24.

AB-2216 was introduced by Assembly Member Haney on 2-7-2024.

This bill would prohibit landlords from preventing a tenant from having a common household pet without reasonable justification. Landlords would be prevented from asking whether the tenant has a pet as part of the application, but would require tenants to notify the landlord, no later than 72 hours from the time they enter into a rental agreement, if they have a pet, or plan to have a pet.
