Updated: Jan 5, 2024

UPDATE: This legislation was referred to the Committee on Insurance but no action has been taken since 2-17-23.

AB-478 was introduced by Assembly Member Connolly on 2-7-23.

This Bill would limit insurance increases for people 65 years of age or older to an increase of no more than 25% of their annual premium for properties within high or very high fire hazard severity zones, and limit premium increases to 1 time in 5 years. It also prohibits an insurer from canceling or refusing to renew a policy based solely on the fact that the property is in a high or very high fire zone for policy holders of 65 years of age or more.
