SUSPENDED: Increased Structural Design Requirements

Updated: Sep 19, 2022

UPDATE: This legislation was suspended in the Senate on 8-26-21.

AB 1329 was introduced on 2-19-21 by Assembly Member Nazarian.

This bill would require the Building Standards Commission to create standards for new construction to be designed to a higher level of structural integrity in an effort to create buildings that would maintain their structural integrity and continue to function after a seismic event. The requirements would be based on the NIST_FEMA “Recommended options for improving the built environment for post-earthquake re-occupancy and functional recovery time” report submitted to Congress in January 2021.
